Courage Cottage
The Courage Cottage is a four-bedroom residence licensed as an adult foster care home, owned and managed by the Stevens Community Medical Center. When a person is unable to return home after a hospitalization or illness, or their caregiver cannot provide the level of care they need, we provide a warm environment with caring staff able to help. We offer 24/7 attention for people who are no longer able to stay in their home, but prefer to be somewhere that feels like home.

Our Services
The Courage Cottage provides care for the following:
- Short term rehabilitation: Those who need short term recuperation following hospitalization, surgery, or illness. Examples include heart attack, stroke, pneumonia, wound care, knee repair, or hip and shoulder surgery.
- End of life care: Those with a terminal illness who need of 24/7 care or hospice services.
- Adult foster care with services: Those in need of alternative care setting for a longer period.
Ancillary services:
- Physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy are available if needed
- A dietician is available for nutrition counseling
- Any service available to Stevens Community Medical Center is available to residents of the Courage Cottage

A Home Away From Home
On the corner of Columbia Avenue and First Street in Morris, sits a warm, inviting home. From the outside, it doesn’t look too different from many other homes in the Morris community, but inside the home, residents and their families are finding something special — physical, emotional and spiritual support in their times of need.Courage Cottage provides specialized care in a home-like setting for patients undergoing rehabilitation or seeking an alternative setting for longterm care, as well as hospice patients and their families. Courage Cottage’s specialty care services have brought support and comfort to countless residents and their
families since its inception in 2001. The Stevens County area community has come to know and depend on Courage Cottage for its excellent rehabilitative and end-of-life care services right here at home. The Stevens Community Medical Center (SCMC) owns and operates Courage Cottage as a department of the healthcare center. SCMC contracts with area hospice and homecare providers for hospice services and to coordinate nursing care. |

Your Support Is Needed
Courage Cottage residents’ daily fees only cover about a third of the actual costs of care. Despite this fact, Courage Cottage and SCMC remain committed to keeping patient fees as affordable as possible to make services accessible for everyone. In order for Courage Cottage to meet its financial needs and be fully sustainable, your contributions are needed. That is why we are looking to those who believe in the mission of Courage Cottage and those who have been touched by its care services to consider making a contribution to Courage Cottage to help us offset operating expenses and achieve long-term sustainability. Every dollar given makes a difference for Courage Cottage residents and their families and will be used directly for services, materials, equipment, and maintenance needs to ensure every resident receives the very best care possible. |
What to Expect
Our spacious home is warmly decorated in soft, calming colors and features an open floor plan in the living room, dining room, and kitchen. Large windows accommodate the house for all to enjoy, as well as an electric fireplace. Each bedroom is decorated with a beautiful handmade quilt and is furnished with a bed, dresser, television, telephone, recliner and its own private half bath.
Residents and family members are afforded privacy, while being able to enjoy the comfortable home like surroundings. A family room is available for family members who wish to stay overnight. If the need arises, the family room may be used as a fifth bedroom.
Our Staff
Our staff to resident ratio is very good, which means that those who stay at the Courage Cottage get personal attention and responsive care. Our staff is trained monthly, ensuring that residents of the Courage Cottage get the best care available.
