Stevens Community Medical Center has been named to the 2024 “Great Community Hospitals” list by Becker’s Hospital Review.
Community hospitals play a vital role in the U.S. healthcare system, delivering accessible and affordable care to patients outside major metropolitan areas. Whether serving rural regions or suburban neighborhoods, these hospitals are essential to improving local health outcomes.
Those recognized on this list demonstrate a strong commitment to clinical excellence, patient-centered care, and continuous improvement. Becker’s selected hospitals based on nominations and an evaluation of various national ratings and reports, including data from U.S. News & World Report, Healthgrades, CMS, The Leapfrog Group, the National Rural Health Association, and The Chartis Center for Rural Health.
SCMC earned a 2025 Performance Leadership Award for excellence in Patient Perspective in November 2025. Performance Leadership Awards program recognizes top quartile performance (i.e., 75th percentile or above) among rural hospitals in Quality, Outcomes, and/or Patient Perspective.
Compiled by The Chartis Center for Rural Health.
The Performance Leadership Awards program is based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX®, a comprehensive and objective framework for assessing how rural hospitals are performing. INDEX benchmarks are relied upon by rural hospitals, health systems with rural footprints, hospital associations, and state offices of rural health to measure performance across multiple areas impacting hospital operations and finance.

SCMC Nursing Assistant Monica Cid-Guadarrama was awarded the 2025 MHA Nursing Assistant Excellence Award. Her dedication and attention to patients at SCMC are a vital part of our day-to-day operations. Monica plays a key role in the Food Rx Program and, in addition to her work as a Nursing Assistant, generously serves as a Spanish translator for patients. Her willingness to go above and beyond—always with compassion and energy—has made a lasting impact on both patients and her fellow team members.
Stevens Community Medical Center was honored with the 2025 Social Media & Digital Engagement Award for outstanding work by the SCMC Marketing Department on its Here For You social media campaign.
This award recognizes excellence in digital outreach and community connection—and the Here For You campaign did just that. Each week, the campaign spotlighted a different aspect of SCMC’s care, services, and community involvement. From highlighting patient-centered programs and specialty services to promoting local events and wellness tips, the posts aimed to inform, inspire, and connect with the community in meaningful ways.
Through consistent, creative, and compassionate messaging, the campaign helped strengthen trust in local healthcare—reinforcing that at SCMC, we truly are Here For You.
SCMC’s Food Services Department was awarded the 2025 MHA Dietary Department of the Year Award in recognition of its commitment to excellence in nutrition services, patient care, and innovation. The team was honored for consistently delivering high-quality, nourishing meals with a focus on patient satisfaction, efficiency, and teamwork—making a daily impact on health and healing throughout the organization.
SCMC was honored with the Community Collaboration in Addressing Social Determinants of Health Award because of their work and collaboration with the Stevens County Food Shelf.
In the Spring of 2024, SCMC partnered with Horizon Public Health to obtain a grant from PrimeWest that would support reducing Food Insecurities, a measure found in Social Determinants of Health, linked to disparities. Non-perishable food items are available at no charge to SCMC clinic patients as needed. This program is not income-based. In the fall of 2024, phase II of the program began with participants receiving fresh fruits, vegetables, and frozen meats on a monthly basis. SCMC’s goal is to help bridge the gap and improve access to healthier, nutritious food options.
SCMC was honored with the 2024 Community Benefit Award for the annual Fall into Health Event
On September 19, 2024 SCMC was recognized by the Minnesota Hospital Association for their excellence in innovation, advocacy, and leadership. SCMC received an award for the annual Fall into Health event that is put on and the collaboration and community benefit it provides. Fall Into Health has been a well-attended event in Morris since 2013, with a primary goal of educating the community on healthy living and connecting the public to local health-related resources. To date, SCMC remains the only health system in Minnesota to host a large-scale, community-focused health event of this caliber—bringing together education, access, and connection in one impactful day.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to our community for supporting Fall into Health every year.

SCMC has consistently been recognized by CMS as a 5 Star hospital. This national recognition is evidence of our overall commitment to supporting a culture of excellence and patient centered care that has been embraced by all who work in our clinics and hospital.
