There is now significant community spread of COVID-19 locally, within Minnesota, and in the surrounding states.
Stevens County has seen a significant rise in the number of people infected with COVID-19 in the past month. With these rising cases we have also seen an increase in the number of people requiring medical attention due to their illness.
Starting in early November Minnesota has seen more than 200 individuals admitted on a daily basis with COVID-19 and the number of admissions continue to trend upward. These rising numbers in combination with healthcare providers being out of work due to community exposure to COVID-19 are putting a strain on the hospital systems in the state.
Here at Stevens community Medical Center we have put in place plans to respond to this changing situation but we also need the help of the community. With significant community spread it is now more important than ever to implement the measures that help reduce spread including limiting interactions with other people and social distancing and wearing a mask when you cannot avoid interactions with others outside of your household.
With the recent positive news regarding vaccines there finally is a light at the end of the tunnel for this pandemic. The efforts we all make in these next few months can have a significant impact on reducing pain and suffering for our community.
Thank you and stay safe,
Dr. Jason Huikko
