SCMC donates masks to Morris Area School Bus Garage

A child wearing a mask stands on the steps of a yellow school bus labeled “LIONC,” holding supplies. Several boxes are stacked outside the bus, which is parked near the Morris Area School Bus Garage. An adult, also masked, looks out the bus window.

Stevens Community Medical Center recently donated 4,500 masks to the Morris Area School District’s Bus Garage. Pictured are Henry and Amelia Zeltwanger. With the start of school, student bus transport is back on schedule and the CDC’s transportation rules relating to the spread of COVID-19 are still in effect. Deann Recker, Morris Area Schools Transportation Director, shared a concern with school Administration recently about the COVID-19 regulations for public transportation, recognizing that the bus garage does not have a mass supply of masks to give to students who do not have one available when boarding. Long-time SCMC Board Member Jan Hagen suggested that SCMC could help. “We are fortunate to have the ability to provide a solution to help improve the health of the people we serve, while collaborating with our community,” Kerrie McEvilly, SCMC’s President/CEO, said of the donation of masks.
