Stevens Community Medical Center (SCMC) has been honored by the Minnesota Hospital Association (MHA) with the Community Benefit Award for its Student Health Services Program in partnership with the University of Minnesota Morris (UMN Morris).

The award was presented during MHA’s Annual Fall Meeting, where forty teams and individuals from across the state were recognized for their contributions to strengthening health care in Minnesota. Honorees included hospital staff, trustees, volunteers, and state lawmakers who have shown dedication to improving patient outcomes, supporting caregivers, and preparing health systems for the future.

“Minnesota’s hospitals and health systems are deeply connected to their communities,” said Dr. Rahul Koranne, MHA President and CEO. “These awards highlight the efforts of teams like SCMC that are making a difference in people’s lives today and for years to come.”

A Partnership for Student Health

For more than a decade, SCMC has partnered with UMN Morris to provide health services for students, offering accessible care right on campus. SCMC providers are on site at the UMN Morris Health Services Clinic five days a week, offering everything from routine appointments and preventive care to support for urgent needs. This daily presence makes it easier for students to get timely, trusted care without leaving campus—providing peace of mind for both students and their families. The program reflects SCMC’s broader mission to care for the health and wellbeing of not only local families but also the student population that calls Morris home during their college years.

“This recognition highlights our commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of our community,” said Kerrie McEvilly, SCMC President/CEO. “Our partnership with UMN Morris demonstrates how collaboration with outside organizations can truly strengthen community health.”
